Weddings are beautiful, magical, unforgettable… and sometimes, chaotic behind the scenes. I’ve photographed enough to know that it’s often the little things—the ones you never think to pack—that can make or break your big day.
So here are three small but mighty wedding day tips that brides always thank me for (usually with wide eyes and a very relieved “OH MY GOSH I DIDN’T KNOW THAT!”)
1. Bring White Chalk – Yes, Seriously.
Spilled makeup? Tiny smudge? Random mystery mark (it happens)? White chalk is a secret weapon for covering up spots on your dress. It blends in beautifully and buys you time until you can get it professionally cleaned. It’s cheap, easy to tuck in your bag, and a total lifesaver.
2. Pack a Crochet Hook for Your Buttons.
If your dress has a long row of buttons down the back—especially the teeny-tiny kind—you’ll want this. A crochet hook makes it so much faster (and way less stressful) to get into your dress. Just trust me. It’s better than fumbling and fighting fabric while the clock’s ticking. Get a few images of mom or sister, or a friend helping you button up, and finish the rest of quick with the crochet hook.

3. Match Your Veil to Your Dress—Exactly.
Ivory, white, champagne—these shades can clash fast under natural light or in photos. A veil that’s too white will stick out like a sore thumb (or like you borrowed it from a glow-in-the-dark Barbie). Bring your dress shopping with you when picking a veil, or at least get a fabric swatch. Your future self—and your photographer—will thank you.
Wrap-Up:
Weddings are about the big moments, but the little things? They keep those big moments from becoming big headaches. Pack these three and stay one step ahead of the chaos. You’ve got this—and I’ll be right there cheering you on from behind the lens.
